Gashashi Hydropower Plant Rehabilitation

Project Description:

Existing run-of-river SHPP with weir and frontal intake and a steel penstock; powerhouse with Turgo turbine, tailrace channel.

The necessary works to upgrade the SHPP to 282 kW include: side intake and sluice gate, 8.5 m long headrace closed canal, 17 m long de-silt tank, installation of a Pelton turbine and needed electromechanical equipment, installation of hydromechanical equipment, realization of an access road to the powerhouse.

SHPP final data after rehabilitation: Penstock: 420 m steel
Penstocks’ diameters:
350-325-285mm
Gross head: 115 m
Turbine: 1 Pelton
Design flow rate: 0.35 m3/s
Installed capacity: 282 kW
Energy output: 1.47 GWh

Activities Performed:
The contract includes also Gashashi SHPP and Mukungwa II SHPP Rehabilitation.
